Tau Gamma Phi (ΤΓΦ) also known as the Triskelion Grand Fraternity, is a fraternity founded at the University of the Philippines on October 4, 1968. The Tau Gamma Phi is a protest fraternity, and as such it has committed itself uncompromisingly to the two-fold task of providing the leadership in the quest for a Fraternity System devoid of fraternity violence as well as in the propagation of the Triskelion principles as a way of life. The Fraternity System in the University of the Philippines was immune from these external developments.
The Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity is largest fraternity in the Philippines. It boast of membership of about 800 thousand and chapters in every colleges and universities around the country, and now with Triskelion Alumni Organizations (T.A.O.) in all regions of the United States of America and other continents of the world; and true to its objective of changing the elitist orientation of the fraternity system, the Fraternity had decided to open its door to out-of-school youth so that they, who were not privileged of education, may also share in the fruits and the glory of the Tau Gamma Phi.
Tau Gamma Phi's vision and mission is to serve and excel in all fields of human endeavor. Thus, a way of life in accordance with the Tenets and the Triskelion Codes of Conduct while empowering the principle:"Man is Brother unto Man".
All Triskelions share a common ground and that is to support every endeavor each member has chosen and make every member's dream come true.
Founding:
On October 4, 1968, the Tau Gamma Phi Triskelions' Grand Fraternity was established in the University of the Philippines, and the rest is history.
Moved from the discovery of a problem and seeking viable solutions, prompted the action-group of Rod Confesor, Roy Ordinario, Talek Pablo, Vedasto Venida, Restituto Alfonso and Romeo Fortes to form the Order Of The U.P. Triskelions. Lack of interest from the student body led to a renaming to become the Order Of The Grand Triskelions. Again require of interest led to another renaming this time realizing that Greek letter organizations were popular the founder voted to change the organization to a Greek Letter name. Finally adapting the greek letters Tau Gamma Phi (ΤΓΦ) which stands for Triskelion Grand Fraternity on October 4, 1968 at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.
By now only four of the original six founders were left dubbed the Four Founding Fathers, Rodrigo Sta. Maria Confesor, Roy Alolor Ordinario, Talek Hamias Pablo,Vedasto Sario Venida. Convinced of the success of a unified endeavor, the Founding Fathers proved to be the real pillars that was later manifested in the succeeding recognition of the Fraternity.
The Fraternity was recognized at the University of the Philippines and soon Bro. Jun Rodriguez hosted Tau Gamma Phi at Cavite - the first site of formal initiation.
An additional chapter of Triskelions was found at the Philippine Maritime Institute on August 3, 1969. In the next few years many other chapters would also be founded.
Martial Law
Martial Law was declared on September 21, 1972 by the late Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos, The Fraternity other organizations became the target of military harassment. Believing that these fraternities posed a threat to the order and stability of the Marcos regime. Ostensibly due to leftist leanings, the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity's office was raided under an Arrest-Search and Seizure signed then Secretary of Defense Juan Ponce Enrile, fortunately, no one was at the office that time.
Struggling from the effects of Martial Law which suspended all fraternal and organizational activity within the collegiate levels. Bro. Ramoncito “Monching" Ocampo, who was the Secretary-General of the Fraternity during that time, took the decided to tap the younger generations in the High School sector. This gave birth to the Junior Tau Gamma Phi founded at San Beda College - High School in 1975 where Bro. Boyet Gorospe was one of the founders.
Augmentation
The Fraternity had decided to open its door to out-of-school youth, Triskelion Youth Movement (TYM) so that they, who were not privileged of education, may also share in the fruits and the glory of the Tau Gamma Phi.
With the participation of the TYM, the fraternity has evolved to become a social organization with a strong objective to reach out to all sectors of the society especially those who are in difficult situations such as typhoons, floods, fires, and other calamities that affects the well being of every individual.
At present, a Sorority, International Councils and Coordinating Bodies are activated namely: Tau Gamma Sigma (TΓΣ), Triskelion Grand Foundation (TGF) of Northern America, Triskelion International (TI), Triskelion Alumni Organizations (TAO) of the Middle East Region, Europe and Asia, Triskelion Global Coordinating Council (TGCC), National Executive Council (NEC), Triskelion Order of Law (TOL), Triskelion Order of Medicine (TOM) of the Philippines, whose main goal is to uplift the well being of the Fraternity plus Bagong Tao Movement (BTM) a duly accredited party list organization for a better Triskelions’ future
